1.
Increase the
intake of protein, calcium, and iron in the child’s diet.
During 3-6 years of rapid physical and cognitive growth phase, these nutrients help promote child’s physical growth rate and prevent stunted growth.
To increase protein intake in the meals; add 50% besan, soya flour, sattu to 50% regular wheat flour to make chapattis.
Calcium intake can be increased by offering curds, paneer, soya, tofu, cheese, all green leafy vegetables in meals and snacks besides milk.
Research shows that Iron in diet plays a pivotal role in cognitive development of the child. Hence, ensure a good Iron intake in the diet by offering all dark green leafy vegetables, kala channa/cholia, jaggery, poha and rice puffs. [Non-veg food items and eggs are naturally rich source of Iron].

Increase the
intake of fresh fruits in the child’s diet.
Fresh fruits and fruit juices (non-processed) are rich in Vitamins and Antioxidants. These are essential nutrients in strengthening the immune system and helping to protect the body against fighting infections and diseases.
Try and offer the child any seasonal fruit along with breakfast and evening snack to ensure that recommended allowances of at least two whole fruits a day are met (According to Indian Dietetic Association).
